Get to know more about Lee and his role at Alt Labs through our quick-fire #meettheteam questions!
1: What does your role involve?
I manage the creative department. This includes working on all aspects of projects, from pitching to presentation decks, web design and more. I work closely with all departments of the business including assisting the marketing team with digital assets … Essentially, making stuff look pretty through the ancient art of design!
2: What is the most important skill you need for your role?
A keen eye! Attention to detail is very important in my role and ensuring that the work that is distributed is on brand. A warm heart and friendly manner never goes a miss too.
3: What is the most rewarding part of your role?
The culmination of everyone’s hard work coming together as one and delivering the final product.
4: What has been the biggest change in your sector in the past 12 months?
For me, the biggest shift in the design sector has been the move to more remote working brought on by the pandemic and its aftermath. Before, I liked nothing more than being in a noisy, busy, vibrant office where you could spend the day having the types of interactions with people that designers feed off, and inspiration would spring from the most unexpected places. Inevitably problems would find solutions when you were starting to feel there really wasn’t one.
Designers are versatile people and will always find a way to work, but they are also particular in their craft, so having to adapt so drastically can be a right pain in the proverbial.
5: What is your top productivity hack?
If I am ever stuck on a particular stage of a project, where things just aren’t going how I want them to, I find the best thing to do is literally go back to the drawing board.
Grabbing a pencil and a piece of paper and scribbling down as many outcomes as I can really helps me get my head back on track. They don’t have to be works of art. They will be in the bin at the end of the day anyway.
It clears the fog that’s built whilst sitting staring at a screen, spending hours trying to make something work, and I can approach with a new perspective.
