People across Cleveland will soon be able to report and alert information directly to Cleveland Police through the force’s first-ever policing app.
We’re delighted to announce that we will be responsible for the development, branding, and aiding with the marketing of this Police reporting app.
The project is one of Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner Steve Turner’s election pledges and is part of his newly published Police and Crime Plan.
What is it?
The app will allow members of the public to report non urgent incidents to the Police.
The Police Crime Commission will be encouraging those to report incidents that are not deemed as an emergency, or a crime, in a bid to aid intelligence units build up information and knowledge to prevent crime.

The app will also aim to ease the pressure of non-urgent reports to the Police Control Centre, which will, in turn, provide those reporting emergencies with a shorter wait time.
There is often confusion amongst the public around what should be reported as a crime to the police, and what should be communicated to local authorities.
This app will help inform, educate and signpost the public to report matters to the relevant organisation if it is not a police matter.
Utilising Technology throughout Cleveland Police
Cleveland PCC Steve Turner said: “From the outset, I’ve called for a greater use of technology to improve the way Cleveland Police serves our communities.
“This includes making it as simple as possible for the public to pass on information and engage with the force’s officers and staff.”
“In addition to the force’s website and the Force Control Room, the new app will allow residents to provide information to the force from their handheld devices.”
“We’re delighted to have a Teesside-based organisation like Alt Labs on board to assist us in developing this exciting product to make Cleveland safer.”
The app will not initially be used to report crimes, but this is something that may be incorporated at a later date.
Fit for purpose
Head of marketing at Alt Labs, Adam Foster, said the following about the project “It’s a great win for us as a business. I think one of the things that has helped us stand out to win this project is our approach to app development. We don’t think of ourselves as ‘just building apps’, we solve problems.”
“Before design and development of the app begins, we’ll complete workshops with the PCC to ensure that the true problems are defined, and that logical solutions are agreed upon. Our LDJ and Design Sprints are an innovative way of working that the Cleveland Police have not taken part in before.
“Once all of this is done, we then start design and development to bring these solutions to life through the app”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said that by creating the app in Teesside it would support local people.
He added: “It’s fantastic news that Cleveland Police are rolling out this innovative app that will make it quicker and easier for local people across Teesside and Hartlepool to report issues to their police force.
“Teesside is quickly establishing itself as a powerhouse for digital and creative industries which is brilliant news for jobs in our region.
